Wow it feels like so long ago I last updated, when it really was only like two weeks ago? I guess because the last time it was in PEI and now we are in Toronto. It's really strange being here again, I like it, but it's changed a lot. I'm looking forward to establishing a life again here though and hopefully making friends and reaching out to some people aka my friend Lucas, who I am having lunch with on Wednesday!
Anyway, the drive back to Ontario was a lot less stressful than when we did the drive last year. The first day we drove all through New Brunswick and ended up in northern Quebec. It was good weather all the way and the animals behaved themselves. The next day we stopped in Cornwall, Ontario after all day in Quebec (so many cute QC villages and small towns). Friday afternoon we made it to Toronto. Our than some random things and an air mattress we have nothing yet. My dad is coming next Saturday to help us get our stuff from Guelph. So yeah, two weeks with next to nothing other than clothes, it's pretty annoying.
So I'm living in the same building as my mom, and any new friends, my mom and I have a bit of a complicated relationship, i.e. we've had big fights in the past but she's gotten a lot better. We only had one fight this week about our internet (which was a goddamn ordeal to install), but othre than that things have been really going well. I see her almost everyday, which I thought would annoy me, but I don't mind. Plus she's been helping us out a lot with other stuff, and she's letting me work from her place when I'm WFH otherwise I would basically be sitting on a floor lol. But she is aware of my boundaries and if I said I didn't want to see her she would get it.
I started my new job on Monday. It's 50% hybrid, so one week we have to go in two days, the next week three days, and so on. We get to choose the days and it doesn't have to stay the same every week which I am glad about, i.e. I'll likely never go in on a Monday lol. The new people in my group all seem like cool people. We have one girl who has transferred from another department named Ioana and she's pretty funny, she swears like a sailor, but my supervisor and the manager (Jacquie and Katharine) are chill. I think I am going to enjoy the job, and the company seems leagues better than Allianz. We are basically training until the end of November, and then even after I believe we'll still be in a training setting with cases. I could see us not actually touching real work until possibly end of December or even in 2024. Unlike Allianz where they threw you into the deep end and got annoyed when people didn't understand, the training is so much better here. I feel lucky I got this job, as most of my new co-workers were referred by people already working there.
I bought some work clothes, but I definitely need to get more at some point. I bought new shoes and the back destroyed my heels, so my feet are not happy right now. It's hard going from being a bum to having to put in an effort with your work clothing. Even when I was in office at Allianz people dressed kinda slobbish, like Tasha would wear distressed jeans, people wore leggings (I love leggings, no hate) etc. It definitely feels more corporate.
The animals are doing better. Jinkx actually took a lot longer than Ava to adjust to the change. The first night she was meowing up a storm and it was bad, but now she's doing better. I bought her a cat tree and she doesn't use it at all which annoys me. I hope maybe once we have our furniture maybe she will. There's a lot of things I need to eventually buy for this apartment. The first major purchase I did yesterday was a couch. We got rid of our couch when we left Guelph last year as my mom's place had two of them, so we got a pretty decent sectional. It's arriving on Friday, and then Saturday we get all our other stuff. I'm looking forward to making this space my own. It's actually a pretty big sized apartment which is nice. Simon is looking for a job still, so I hope he gets one soon. He had an interview for manager at a Roger's store on Bloor and they said they'd follow up for another interview, so hopefully that happens this week.
Once we get unpacked and settled I'm definitely going to start looking into doing more things here. There's a community centre nearby that I want to join as it is cheap and has a pool. Then I live very close to a music store, and I might sign up for guitar lessons. Then I'd like to download Bumble app again for finding friends. I'm not going to rush things though, but just looking ahead to 2024. Oh and I submitted my grad school application to the U of Alberta. All my professors said they'd give a reference, so crossing my fingers I get accepted and can transfer.
Anyway, that's about it. Things have been hectic, but good. Sorry I haven't been commenting on entries, I'm about to go off and read them and get caught up now.
